Note: Half-day camps can be combined as full-day camps from 8:30am-5pm.
Week 1 (07/07-07/11)
07/07 to 07/11 5 half day Monday-Friday 9:00am-12:00pm $250/camp Location: 16100 NW Cornell Road Suite 210 Room 4This is the 1st out of 2 camps for SSAT/HSPT Vocabulary/Reading/Essay test preparation in summer.
This is the SSAT/HSPT Vocabulary/Reading/Writing test prep camp for Middle school students preparing Private High school entry tests. The class will cover information about the format of the SSAT/HSPT, its timing, scoring, and content, We will learn through the test skills and tips by practice tests for each section.
We will use some printed materials for Vocabulary, Reading and Writing skills, and we will also use online tests for practice and mock the real tests. All materials will be provided in the camp. We will have Ipads in the camp for students doing the online tests.The SSAT score is required by OES, Catlin Cable high school application or it can be used to qualify the talented search program such as Johns Hopkins for talented youth https://cty.jhu.edu/. SSAT tests usually are hosted by some local schools like OES, Catlin Cable. The tests are usually offered in December, January, and February.
The HSPT test is similar to the SSAT test, which is used by the Christian High schools like Jesuit, St. Mary, or Valley Catholic. HSPT test is usually offered in January by the private school like Jesuit.

This camp will use more material to further refine the vocabulary, reading and essay writing skills for the SSAT/HSPT tests.

This class is for students who are going to enter the 9/10 th grade in the coming Fall term. The class will introduce Essay writing skills they will learn in high schools and get them ready for the new school year.
This course is the step towards to the high school essay. You will be guided through the writing process, learning the essential components of the American high school essay. Topics include the various types of essays, the structure, and the development of paragraphs, topic sentences, thesis statements, supporting examples, grammar for academic writing, and vocabulary choices.
By the end of this course, students will be more ready for their high school English class. Students may continue to improve and deep their Essay writing skills by entering to Essay Writing IA class in the coming Fall term at Sunshine.

The class will introduce and practice Essay writing skills required by high school, especially practice for the timed Essay so that students will be more successful in their high school English classes.
This course is the step towards to the high school Honor English and AP English essay. You will be guided through the writing process, learning the essential components of the American high school essay. Topics include the various types of essays, the structure, and the development of paragraphs, topic sentences, thesis statements, supporting examples, grammar for academic writing, and vocabulary choices.
By the end of this course, students will be more ready for their high school Honor or AP English classes Students may continue to improve and deep their Essay writing skills by entering to Essay Writing I or II class in the coming Fall term at Sunshine.

This course offers a critical-creative reading and annotating path to good composing practices at upper secondary and tertiary stages of learning. It aims to support your development of rhetorical strategies, literary analysis and critical composing practices.
You will learn varying kinds of critical thinking needed to make choices – choices of creative purpose and the diction, detail, imagery, and syntax to fulfill it. You will learn the questions to ask to develop a research question and a tenable thesis statement. You will be given sources to support your learning to summarize, quote, cite and reference properly. You will read different types of critical essays that offer various types of claims and well-supported arguments, all to support your understanding of how you may shape your essay. You will increase your vocabulary, understanding of logical, ethical and emotional fallacies to avoid and boost confidence in your capacity for writing various types of essays and critical tasks.
Though the focus of the class will be on composing various types of essays required by AP and IB Diploma Programs, several of those types pertain to SAT essay writing, such as the AP rhetorical analysis essay and IB literary commentary. Preparation for those, including annotating text and various pre-writing approaches can support SAT test takers to prepare for writing and essay well.
Each Essay Level and Grammar has two years worth of skill content. A student can take this level for two years without repeating content!
